Ground Disturbance 201 BC is a full-day supervisory-level course for workers, supervisors, and contractors involved in planning, supervising, or completing ground disturbance activities in British Columbia.
This course focuses on damage prevention, regulatory responsibilities, buried facility identification, ground disturbance planning, approvals, permits, hazard assessments, emergency response planning, locating and marking requirements, hand exposure, excavation, backfilling, and incident reporting.
Students will review the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders, including ground disturbers, facility owners, locators, municipalities, notification centres, and regulators. The course is designed to support safe ground disturbance practices and help prevent damage to buried facilities.

  • Damage prevention and consequences of contact
  • Ground disturbance regulations and responsibilities
  • Hazard assessments and emergency response planning
  • Ground disturbance approvals and documentation
  • BC 1 Call / notification process
  • Locating and marking buried facilities
  • Hand exposure zones and procedures
  • Excavation and backfilling practices
  • Damage management and incident reporting
Optional Alberta Add-On
Participants who also require Alberta-specific ground disturbance awareness may add a 1-hour Alberta supplement. This add-on reviews Alberta-specific terminology, regulatory expectations, notification requirements, and key differences from the BC program.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled class time and bring the following to class:

  • Valid Government issued ID
  • Writing utensil and paper
  • Water Bottle, lunch and snacks

CANCELLATION POLICY

Any booking cancelled 7 business days in advance will receive a full refund. Bookings cancelled within 3-6 business days of the course start will receive a credit applied to their account for future training. Students cancelling less than 48 hours before the course start, withdrawing after commencing class, showing up late, or failing to attend classes without notification (No Shows) will forfeit the full course fee. Student substitutions will be allowed up to the start of the course with no penalties. Irwin’s Safety reserves the right to cancel any course in which the minimum registration is not met, and make any changes in course content as circumstances may require. Every effort will be made to advise students by phone or mail of cancellations prior to the commencement date. In order to guarantee a seat in any of our courses, payment must be made at the time of booking.
